Let the Wild Rumpus Start!
Winner of the 1964 Caldecott Medal, Maurice Sendak’sWhere the Wild Things Are tells the classic story about childhood and imagination. The story follows Max, a rambunctious boy who feels misunderstood at home and sets off to seek new worlds across the sea. Max lands on an island where he meets the Wild Things – mysterious and strange creatures – whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions. The Wild Things desperately long for a leader to guide them, as much as Max longs for a kingdom to rule. When Max is crowned king, he promises to create the place he’s imagined -- where loneliness is not allowed and where dirt clod fights and building forts are a must. Max soon finds, though, that ruling his kingdom is not so easy and can be as dangerous as the waters that brought him there.
